...and I have to resubmit

Well the good news is that my portfolio had more than enough information and professional development events. The bad news is the same! I didn't get to grips with the 'in depth reflection in 30 words or less' so as a consequence I have a fair bit of editing to do in the next 60 days. I thought I'd done more than enough for a mallow puff so I had already begun on my next Portfolio. I had enrolled in an online course, TUF or Thriving Under Fire. I enjoyed going through the various problems. I thought I knew a lot about responding to customer issues but learned that there is always another, better and different way to approach customer problems. In fact I enjoyed it so much I put re-doing my portfolio on the back burner for a while. Then suddenly the time started to disappear.   Where did I leave my motivation....??

Finished my second professional portfolio

It has been a mission but today I completed my third professional development portfolio. It was only a mission because I couldn't read most of my hand scribbled notes about things that I had deemed note worthy to include. Note to self, type it as you go next time. So what have I learned over the last three years? Every day there has been an incident, activity or event that teaches me something, I'm always learning new and interesting things in response to customer inquiries and very often am able to expand and pass on that new information to others. The challenge was two fold. One, to limit the number of activities I included which define my role as a professional librarian, and two, keeping the reflection to 30 words. I have to admit I was not always successful with the latter and wonder why reflection needs to be limited. Surely the act of reflection, the internal debate and discussion is the impetus for growth and change. Indeed some of the activities I continue to reflect on and wonder what else I could have done and will try in future.
